MyMotherHustle Story - El Abad
“Success doesn’t come overnight. Don’t give up when it seems like you’re not going anywhere in your business.”

When and how did you begin your business? Give us the backstory!

Becoming a mom was something I’d dreamt of since I was a little girl. But after I had my son Ryan, reality hit. My whole world was flipped completely upside down. You can talk to relatives, read every book on parenthood, and drown yourself in how-to articles online… but nothing will prepare you for the big life change about to happen to you when you become a mom until it happens.

Never did I think I would have to give up so much of who I am to care for a boy who certainly stole my heart. I was with the greatest love of my life, my son, every day, but I felt alone. I was lost. Beyond motherhood, I searched for my purpose. As I was discovering the “new” me and working on embracing my motherhood role, I started sharing my journey as a way to connect with other moms in the community. And, with that, Land of Mom was born.

Since then, Land of Mom has evolved into much more than just my personal blog. It is a community. Even though every mom will have her own experience, my mission is to help moms discover, embrace and love who they are so that they are empowered to live their happiest life and enjoy the motherhood journey.

In just a few weeks I’m hosting the Happy Mom Conference in Los Angeles, CA. This event is a day of community, inspiration and action. It’s a place for moms who want to make space in their lives to pursue their passions… to start new careers… to open a shop.. to grow their businesses to new heights. It’s a place for them to celebrate that they’re “more than just a mom”.

Tell us a little about your family.

My husband and baby daddy is Art. He’s my polar opposite and the most caring, loving daddy and hubby. He’s a lawyer and advocate for the elderly. I have two boys, Ryan and Leo (2.5 and 11 months). My three men are my whole world!

What were the biggest challenges you’ve faced or lessons you’ve learned since starting your business?

Gaining a following and people who actually care about the content you are putting out doesn’t happen so easily or quickly in the blog world. I learned to just continue putting out the best content for my niche audience and people and brands started paying attention. You have to start somewhere!

I also started reaching out to other mom bosses early on, trying to feature as many amazing stories as possible. I learned that having a community helps you grow so much faster than trying to do everything alone.

How does motherhood affect or influence your business? Your creativity?

In every single way! For one, I’m a full-time mama so I work around my kids’ schedules (preschool and naps) or in the evening when they’re asleep. They are the sole reason I push on and strive to grow my business to be the best example I can be for them. I walked away from my career prior to babies, and I’m now building a new career life completely inspired by them and my motherhood journey.

What advice would you give to a brand-new creative entrepreneur?

Success doesn’t come overnight. Don’t give up when it seems like you’re not going anywhere in your business. Be true to yourself and your passion, stay focused, and never give up doing whatever it is that lights your soul on fire. Hard work does pay off.

What advice would you give to a brand-new mom?

Trust your gut. You can read all of the parenting books and get advice from loved ones and friends, but when you become a mom your natural instincts will just kick in and no one will make better decisions for your child than you. Trust yourself and enjoy the journey.
